Why I’m Taking a Break And What I’ll Be Thinking About On The Slopes
Hitting Pause
By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be somewhere in Canada with the family – probably halfway up a mountain, cold fingers wrapped around a coffee, watching the kids race each other down the slopes.
I wrote this before leaving, so I could completely switch off for a few weeks and be fully present with them.
Because after a big year of mentoring, meetups and deals, I’ve learned that rest isn’t a reward for working hard – it’s part of what keeps the work meaningful.
Why I’m Taking a Break
It’s been another full year – plenty of wins, lessons, curveballs and conversations but as much as I love what I do, I know how easy it is to slip into ‘always on‘ mode.
Property has no finish line and there’s always one more call, one more feaso, one more opportunity.
That’s why I’m intentional about stepping back.
To recharge, reflect and get clear before another big year ahead.
You can’t create your best ideas when your brain’s crowded.
You need space.
The Power of the Pause
It’s funny, the best insights rarely come when you’re pushing. They show up in the quiet moments… on long walks, at the top of a ski lift or while you’re watching snow fall – with no phone in sight.
That’s when things settle and you see what really matters.
Balance isn’t just about time off.
It’s about perspective – zooming out far enough to make sure you’re still climbing the right mountain.
Three Questions I’m Taking Into 2026
While I’m away, I’ll be thinking about these three questions.
Maybe they’ll help you too:
- What worked this year that I’ll double down on?
Not everything needs reinventing. Success leaves clues – repeat what worked. - What slowed me down that I’ll drop?
Whether it’s habits, noise or distractions – clearing space creates momentum. - Who do I want beside me for the next chapter?
The right people multiply progress. Keep building your circle carefully.
Simple questions, but powerful ones.
A Nudge for You
If you’re still in go-mode right now, I get it but before the new year rush begins, take a breath.
Step away from the spreadsheets, shut the laptop and give yourself time to think.
You might be surprised what clarity shows up when you stop trying to chase it.
We talk a lot about momentum but momentum without direction just burns energy.
Use this break to check your compass before you start running again.
Final Reflection
As 2025 winds down, I just want to say thank you for reading, for showing up, for being part of this growing community.
It’s a privilege to share this journey with you all.
I hope your holidays are filled with family, laughter and a bit of stillness before the new year kicks in.
Enjoy it – you don’t get this time back.
See you in mid-January, re-charged and ready for another year of growth, learning and good property deals.
Cheers,
Matt
